Nyonya & Baba Peranakan Cuisine

Doc, Vir Go, Phar Ma and I went on a short break to Batam over the long weekend. First thing to do after we came back from our much tiring recharging trip, dinner! We headed up for my favourite food – the Peranakan’s.

Nyonya Ngo Hiang
Deep-fried dried bean curd skin filled with seasoned minced pork, prawns, water chestnut and carrot served with chili and sweet sauce. This dish is a must-try Nyonya delicacy! -as per quoted from nyonyanbaba.com.

Decent dish. But, nothing to brag about.

Pork Rib Sio

Was pretty anticipating for this one. But! Babi Sio from Baba Wins wins hands down.

Belanja Kangkong

Overcooked kangkong. Enough said.

Bakwang Kepeting

Light soup. Nothing much to comment. Bamboo shoots are nice, tho.

Chendol is not made with gula Melaka. Yacks! Black glutinous rice pudding with too much coconut milk.

Taste: 2.3/5
Ambiance: 3.5/5

Overall dining experience is below average. The lady captain was impolite, didn’t even bother to say “you’re welcome” when we thanked her. Kudos!
Not recommended. TYVM.
